Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 11, 2026
Konek.chat is an offline, peer-to-peer emergency messenger. It is built to work with no internet, no accounts, no phone number, and no central server. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information.
The short version
- We do not run a server and we do not collect your data. Your data lives on your device and travels directly between nearby phones over Bluetooth.
- No accounts, no sign-up, no analytics, no ads, no third-party tracking SDKs.
- Your identity is a cryptographic key pair generated on your device; the private keys stay in the operating system's secure storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore) and never leave the device.
What the app stores on your device
- Identity keys (in secure storage) and your chosen display name.
- Messages you send, receive, or relay, stored locally. Direct messages are end-to-end encrypted. Messages automatically expire and are deleted; Panic wipe erases everything immediately.
- Locations — your GPS position, captured only when you choose to send an SOS or share your location, plus the latest known position of people who have shared theirs.
- A local diagnostic log of radio/app activity, kept only on your device.
What is shared, and with whom
By design, an offline mesh shares some data directly with nearby users over Bluetooth — there is no other way for messages to travel:
- Direct messages are end-to-end encrypted; only the intended recipient can read them. Other devices relay the encrypted bytes without being able to read them.
- Emergency (SOS), location shares, public-room messages, and official announcements are broadcast: signed by the sender, readable by nearby devices, and relayed across the mesh. Do not put anything in a broadcast that you do not want nearby people to see.
- We do not sell data, send it to advertisers, or transmit it to any server in this version.
Permissions
- Bluetooth — discover nearby devices and relay messages (the core function).
- Location (while using the app) — to attach your position to an SOS/location share and to show distance/direction. Used only while you use those features.
- Camera — only to scan a contact's QR code for in-person key exchange.
Children
Konek.chat is not directed to children.
Future versions
A later version may add an optional internet gateway so that, when a device has connectivity, emergency reports can reach responders. If/when that ships, this policy will be updated to describe exactly what is sent and to which server — and only SOS/location data (never private messages) would ever be eligible to sync.
