Safety & limitations
Last updated: June 11, 2026
Konek.chat is a powerful tool when networks fail — but it has real limits. Please understand them before an emergency.
It is not 911
Konek.chat does not contact emergency services. If official channels (911, local hotlines, SMS, radio) work, use them first. Treat Konek.chat as a backup for when nothing else works.
Range is short; coverage is opportunistic
Bluetooth reaches roughly 10–30 metres per hop. Messages travel farther only by hopping phone-to-phone, so coverage depends on how many people nearby have the app. In a sparse area you may reach no one.
Delivery is best-effort
There is no guarantee a message arrives, or arrives quickly. Messages are stored-and-forwarded and may reach someone later — or not at all.
Background limits
The app works best while open on screen. iOS and Android restrict background Bluetooth, and a fully closed (force-quit) app cannot receive. Keep Konek.chat open during an emergency.
Location accuracy
GPS works offline but can be off by several metres and is weak indoors or underground. The app adds a Bluetooth "getting warmer" signal for the final approach.
Battery
Continuous Bluetooth and GPS use power. Conserve battery where you can; the app offers power-saving modes.
Privacy reminder
SOS, location, public rooms, and alerts are public to nearby devices by design. Private 1-on-1 chats are end-to-end encrypted. See our Privacy Policy.
